In this week-long, half-day summer intercession class, students explore the joy of cooking through the creation of easy, kid-friendly desserts. Designed for young chefs, the course introduces basic kitchen skills and food safety while encouraging creativity, teamwork, and confidence in the kitchen. Students learn and practice essential cooking vocabulary and skills.Throughout the week, students prepare a variety of no-bake and low-heat desserts, such as parfaits, cookies, fruit-based treats, and simple baked goods, with an emphasis on age-appropriate techniques and collaboration. Activities support math and reading skills as students measure, sequence steps, and read recipes together. As a culminating project, each student contributes to a class dessert recipe book, featuring illustrated recipes and reflections on what they learned. Students take home the completed recipe book as a keepsake to continue cooking with their families.
