Join us for Cassatt, Monet and Guy Rose Impressionist-style Painting!
Did you know that here in Southern California, in the Irvine/Laguna Beach area, artists were painting nature, in the Impressionist style, at the very same time as the French Impressionists? California artist Guy Rose even sailed to France in order to meet and to brainstorm with Claude Monet, and the two became great friends! American artist Mary Cassatt was also working in Paris, alongside Edgar Degas, at the time! In this workshop, we will experiment with paints, and a variety of other mediums, and will produce a series of artworks inspired by the Impressionists who were working in Paris and in America in the early 1900’s! We will also learn some simple French words pertaining to the visual arts (colors, tools, techniques, etc.) so that we may truly immerse ourselves in the visionary world of the Impressionists! (This workshop was inspired by the exhibition, viewed at the Denver Art Museum in November, 2021, by the instructor, entitled, “Whistler to Cassatt”). Students in grades 1-8 are invited to participate in a friendly and encouraging classroom climate.Instructor: Roxanne Kane
