Incoming Grade 5 students prepare for increased academic expectations through rigorous, skill-focused instruction. In reading, students participate in a class novel study, analyzing the author’s message and tracking their thinking through annotations and reading journals. In writing, students develop persuasive writing skills by crafting clear arguments supported by evidence. Math instruction reinforces key concepts including place value, decimals, multi-step word problems, factors, divisibility, and prime numbers. Students practice multiplication and division algorithms, fraction operations with unlike denominators, order of operations, and geometry concepts related to angles and polygons.
