This welcoming and creative drawing class helps students discover that everyone is an artist in their own unique way. The focus of the class is not on perfection, but on exploration, self-expression, and learning to be kind to yourself throughout your artistic journey. Students are encouraged to try new things, make mistakes, and grow with confidence in a supportive and positive environment. Students will learn the basics of drawing, including lines, shape, form, texture, space, and proportion, through fun activities. The class introduces a variety of drawing mediums such as pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, and oil pastel, allowing students to explore different tools and discover their personal preferences. Through still life drawing, students will practice observing everyday objects and translating what they see onto paper. They will also create self-portraits, learning about facial features, proportions, and how art can express personality and emotions. Group activities include drawing portraits of classmates, which will help students build observation skills, empathy, and collaboration while practicing respect for one another, as well as still life observations that are put together as a group.
