Model United Nations (MUN) is a powerful experience for our young people to come together to listen, negotiate, collaborate and then offer solutions to some of our planet’s most pressing problems. As an International Baccalaureate World School, MUN is an important step toward achieving our vision of educating tomorrow’s and today’s global leaders. Camp participants will serve as delegates as we hold a session of the United Nations (UN). Delegates will learn about the UN, discuss important current events and learn important communication tools such as how to do research, listen to others and to share their “voice.” During the week, students will participate in an engaging simulation about an important current event and become a delegate from their country of choice to the UN. The week will culminate with a simulation activity and a global festival and food banquet. Participation in this camp will prepare students for participation in MUN conferences during the academic year at other schools and for future high school participation.
Global topics under discussion: Prevention of the Spread of Nuclear Weapons, Whaling, Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Philippines Typhoon Recovery, Colonization of Space, Protection of Children and more.
